The AU focuses on the main characters such as the Pico Gang and the Goth punks, but also the alien species known as the Penilians.
The universe is dark and twisted, full of vile and morraly questionable people and actions.

events in the au can be split into two main timelines. The "good ending" and the "bad ending". The course of action depends fully on the decisions pico makes.

GENERALLY
Penilians are large humanoid insectoids that thrive in dark and colder conditions. They colonize planets to exploit their resources, and destroy the ones they deem useless for fun. Penilians are infamous for being in love with destruction, sadism, and being disturbingly hypersexual. Most other sentient alien races who are aware of their existence try to stay away, as making enemies with them can have dire consequences. Their society is extremely utilitarian and militarized, everyone has their place and a job to do.
ABILITIES
Penilians most notably have the ability to shapeshift. They can transform into a member of another species, usually for spying purposes. They can also shift specific limbs on a whim, and change their size, either shrinking or enlarging to better fit in with the species they're disguising themselves as. (The natural height of a penilian is from 7 ft to even 11 ft tall) These aliens, just like most, have very advanced technology, and achieved space and time travel long ago therefore living in a cyber-utopia. They have very damage resistant exoskeletons protecting their bodies, as well as large mandibles and claws . The mandibles don't serve much of a purpose to them, like they did to their far ancestors. They remained as a feature of mating appeal, due to females choosing males with larger mandibles for centuries before traditional reproduction went obselete, the trait is engraved into their species. They possess great night vision. Penilians are much more intelligent than humans on average, with the average IQ for a penilian being 270.Cons of shapeshifting : it drains a lot of energy, and they have to constantly resupply it by eating or sleeping. If a penilian is completely drained they aren’t able to shapeshift until they resupply.Some notes on shapeshifting : They can't shapeshift forever, and after a while their bodies just become too drained to keep it up. The shapeshifting takes a lot of energy, and they have to regularly replenish it by either eating or sleeping. The longer they change shape the more they have to sustain those needs. When they sleep, or are very injured, they shed the disguise unwillingly.When disguised as a human, while still looking extremely convincing, Cassandra still has some unique features that hint at him not being a real human. Main ones being extremely generic facial structure, lack of any skin imperfections, lower than normal body temperature at all times and feeling solid like a wall to touch due to lack of skin and external muscles.
Penilians cannot swim therefore they have a natural fear of bodies of water, they get anxious and uncomfortable if they're in water that reaches their waist.
Their bodies have an extremely small fat content, most of their insides other than organs is muscle. This lack of fat is also why they can't swim, they sink like rocks.
Their eyes don't handle sunlight well, Their planet is almost completely pitch black, so when exposed to sun they need to wear some sort of eye protection.
A Penilian's weak spot is the crotch, since it's the only part of the body not protected by the exoskeleton.
They're functionally immortal, which means they don't physically age like we do. Their lifespans are also much longer than humans, with some Penilians being recorded to live for even a thousand years.
Penilians shed their exoskeletons when they grow, just like other arthropods. Tho not in a very spectacular way like for example tarantulas do.
Because penilians have an exoskeleton, they don't have an internal skeleton aka bones.
Every Penilian looks the same, they don't have as much diversity as humans humans do. However they can have slightly different bodytypes and unique traits like scars, tattoos (that aren't really traditional tattoos, they just shapeshift patterns onto themselves since they don't have skin.) piercings etc.
Penilians make insectoid noises such as chirping and clicking.
Because they natively live in a colder climate, they dislike high temperatures.
ROMANCE/RELATIONSHIPS
Having very casual sexual relationships is extremely common among penilians, tho they're capable of settling down and having something close to what humans can have. Romantically involved Penilians are very close, and are often protective towards each other. PDA is completely socially acceptable among Penilians.
REPRODUCTION
Penilians are a male exclusive species. Since they discovered and tamed cloning they no longer had the need for two sexes, therefore females were driven to extinction and the Penilians reproduced asexually through said genetic cloning since then. Unlike humans, penilians are "born" as almost fully formed adults, in very controlled and monitored circumstances. They spend their entire adolecnence in a chrysalis which they later emarge from. After they do, they have to wait untill they outgrow their first exoskeleton and shed it. When they do they're considered adult. (Long delay of this process is a confirmed medical condition for them.)
Cons of cloning reproduction : Antisocial disorders are very common, hypersexuality and enhanced aggression due to unanticipated testosterone increase caused by genetic mutations.

SOCIETY
Their native language is called Xarkhne, and it's an extremely early form of latin, that Penilians introduced to humans out of curiosity. Of course they felt insulted when humans approporiated their language and made it worse.
Their native planet is Xarkh. Therefore they're actually called Xarkhan (*Plural, Xarkhans)
They're a militaristic society, so every citizen is a registered soldier.
Social status is defined by military rank
Penilians are actually quite refined culturally, they take great pride in their art, literature and traditions.
They're sticklers to social customs. Going against their social standards is extremely frowned upon, if you're around one or unfortunate enough to visit their homeplanet or one of their colonies.
Their political system is geniocratic, where only educated, experienced, and knowledgable Penilians get to be politically involved and have important political positions.
Penilians recognize each other and other creatures by scent, rather than appearance.
Naming conventions
Penilian names are annagrams of either Greek or Roman names, the gender of the original name doesn't matter since the Penilian form is considered gender neutral.
